The United Nation Capital Development Fund has appointed Preeti Sinha as its Executive Secretary. She is of Indian origin investment and development banker.
Facts:
The Executive Secretary post is the highest rank in the institution.
It will focus on providing micro-finance assistance to women, youth, small and medium-sized enterprises in under-served communities.
She will oversee the efforts of the organisation to deliver scalable impact to make the international financial architecture work for the frontier of world and pre-frontier markets.
It will also focus on supporting sustainable development for women, youth, small and medium-sized enterprises, smallholder farmers, and other traditionally underserved communities.
She also highlighted her goal to make ‘C’ in UNCDF (capital) to be “highly catalytic in mobilising manifold the public and private finance for the LDCs it serves and in developing a new era of engagement with capital markets in 2021 and onwards.”
About UNCDF
The UNCDF was established in 1966 by the UN General Assembly. It is an autonomous, voluntarily funded UN organisation, affiliated with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme). It is headquartered in New York.
Executive Board of UNDP serves simultaneously as Executive Board of UNCDF. The UNCDF works on Financial Inclusion, Local Development Finance, and Least Developed Countries Investment Platform.
