Barbados has announced its plan to remove Queen Elizabeth as its head of state and become a republic. The Prime Minister Mia Mottley said Barbadians wanted a Barbadian head of state. It aims to make the process in time for the 55th anniversary of independence from Britain, in November 2021.
About Barbados
Barbados, island country in the southernmost Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest town is Bridgetown, which is also the main seaport. The Bridgetown, which was founded in 1628 and originally called Indian Bridge. English is the official language and Bajan (English-based creole language) is widely spoken in everyday life, especially in informal settings.
The island was a British possession without interruption from the 17th century to 1966, when it attained independence. The culture of Barbados is probably more British than any other of the Caribbean island. Though African culture of the majority population have been prominent.
People of African descent and mixed African-European descent make up more than nine-tenths of the population. A small fraction of the population is of European (mainly British) descent, and there is an even smaller number of inhabitants who originated from the Indian subcontinent.

This would not be the first in the Caribbean to become a republic state. Guyana took that measure in 1970. Trinidad and Tobago followed suit in 1976 and Dominica in 1978.
