SP Balasubrahmanyam

News : The popular singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away on September 25 at the age of 74.  

About :

He was born in Nellore, Madras Presidency into a Telgu Brahmin family. He interested in music began early. Brilliant in academics, he wanted to become an engineer and took admission in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubramanyam also referred to as S. P. Balu or S. P. B. or Balu.

He was an Indian musician, playback singer, music director, actor, dubbing artist and film producer. He worked predominately in Telgu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films. Balasubrahmanyam made his singing debut in 1966 with Telgu movie Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna.

Balasubrahmayam was cast as Salman Khan’s voice in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989) by composers Ram Laxman. The voice fit Khan and continued being Khan’s voice. He was one of the finest male playback singers, 50 years careers and sang over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages. The condolence message, Hassan said, “A great singer who sang for four generation of heroes will be remembered for seven generations to come” and Mangeshkar referred as “nek insaan”.

Awards:

He won six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his work in different languages. In addition, he won the Filmfare Award and six Filmfare Awards South. Also he held the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs with over 40,000. In 2016, he honoured with the Silver Peacock Medal as Indian Film Personality of the Year. He was a receipt of the Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2011 from the Government of India.
